How infographics can simplify regulation for the entire industry. Do IT like Ukraine Case
The Russian-Ukrainian war differs from previous wars in its huge use of modern technologies. Ukraine receives precision missiles and air defense systems, drones hang over the battlefield and report on the positions of the Russians, special software is used to manage military operations, and it is constantly protected from Russian cyberattacks.
Finally, the developed IT industry provides significant revenues to the budget and helps volunteer funds purchase humanitarian aid for millions of people, weapons, and equipment.
With the start of the full-scale invasion, the IT industry was not in the focus of the Ukrainian government, so it faced certain problems:
- Prohibition of IT specialists from traveling abroad
- Lack of booking for IT company employees
- Currency regulation.
IT Ukraine Association turned to us for help in communicating these issues to the government and society.
Our solution is the Do It Like Ukraine project. This is a convincing 50-page study done completely in infographics about the role of IT in the Ukrainian economy, about the contribution that IT companies make to victory. The research helped show Ukrainian officials the right approaches to interacting with the IT business.
147 companies and 13 regional IT clusters took part in the study.
Simple infographic design to be understandable
The audience of the study is Ukrainian officials, deputies, people who make decisions. Therefore, we decided that the design should be simple and understandable so that these people spend time finding solutions, not trying to understand our messages. We used basic graphics, maps, illustrations, and short analytical texts.
We highlighted the role of the IT industry in the Ukrainian economy and how it is growing
We showed what the state receives from the IT sector
And emphasized that IT is present in various industries of the economy
A separate section was devoted to how IT lives during the war, how it helps to win, and what problems it has
One study — 50+ media publications with a coverage of ≈60,000 views
Leading IT media outlets in Ukraine wrote about the study: AIN, dev.ua, speka.media, TechCrunch referenced it in their own article, and the IT Ukraine Association used it in presentations to Ukrainian officials and foreign audiences.
One study helped solve three industry problems
Namely: simplified travel for IT company employees abroad, a mechanism for booking IT professionals, and simplified currency regulation.
IT exports grew by 5.8% in 2022, and regulatory simplifications were one of the reasons for this growth.
